november goals & october progress

Sorry for the delay in posting, I was kind of hoping this whole Lil Wayne thing to pass.

I should explain: I have a picture of Lil Wayne in an earlier post that I used as a feeble attempt of a joke. Unfortunately, he’s going through some legal trouble and as a result people are Googling his name, stumbling onto my blog and finding themselves completely disappointed in the results. And it’s not just a handful of people. It’s 1,465 people. I’m never going to post a picture of a famous person ever again as it has completely thrown off my metrics. Even today I’ve had over 200 visitors to my blog, which is beyond rare. Thanks for coming though, visitors! I’m sorry this isn’t what you’re looking to find.

Well, onto the post:

Now it’s November and it’s that time again! Time for the new Modite November Monthly Goal Meetup, and while these are not that entertaining for everyone, listing goals has been amazing at keeping me on point and driven throughout the month.

Check out how I rocked it in October:

October Goals!

  • Continue on job search with relevant and interesting public relations and social media positions – Check! — Sadly, this is continuing into November. If you hear about any jobs in NYC that sound like my thing, please let me know! If you’d like to know what my thing is, drop me a line and I’ll give more details. :)
  • Check out yoga studios and sign up to go once a week. If you pay money, you’re more likely to commit. Right?YES! I went EVERY week with my friend/yoga buddy! She is so on point with exercise, it makes it easier to keep up with yoga.
  • Update blog once a week with photographs – I owe pictures of Williamsburg now! - ALMOST. I updated a bunch and I had pictures. Definitely an improvement on last month. So, that’s pretty sweet. Go me.
  • Find a place to volunteer on the weekendsAha! So, volunteering in NYC is a bit tougher than expected. But, I attended a volunteer orientation with NYC CARE last week which took weeks to be able to attend. As a result, now I’m Allowed to volunteer. Plus a former co-worker told me about a great India literacy program that could use more volunteers. Perfect.
  • Cook dinner at least once a week! - Check! After I moved into the new place I started cooking all the time. Not just once a week for dinner, but ALL the time! I’ve totally saved bundles of money now that I don’t eat in restaurants all the time.

Okay, so seriously. How sweet is that?! Hopefully I’ll have the same luck and more next month. Check out November’s goals:

November Goals!

  • Continue on job search with relevant and interesting public relations and social media positions
  • Go to at least one networking event this month to meet new people in my field
  • Stop depending on my iPhone/Google Reader for news and read the Sunday New York Times every week, the paper kind
  • Try to go to yoga twice a week even if my buddy isn’t going
  • Volunteer once a week
  • Learn more about wine and wine pairings, maybe by reading about wine? and drinking a lot of it? Yes, and yes, please.

How’s that sound? Seems feasible enough.

The newspaper one seems to be the most important to me, aside from the job hunt. This is because I’ve found that since I use Google Reader, I tend to polarize my news to focus only on things I find value  in…but what if I’m missing out on news that would help spur another interest? I could be missing out on major world issues if all I read are social media, gizmo, asian issues, food and tech blogs. Okay, so I definitely am missing out on major news. Plus, the newspapers need our help and it won’t happen if I’m reading it online. Right?

So, tell me how things are going for you and what you’re up to this month. I’d love to be updated on your life, too!

  1. I like the last goal.

  2. I like the last goal too, and it brings up a place I want to try… it’s called Sweet Revenge and has cupcake and wine pairings… you game?

  3. Haha, the wine one is hilarious. I LOVE learning and tasting wine, so fun. Also, yes, I will try the buddy thing… except my friends tend to be just as bad as I am, ha. Looking forward to how you do next month!

    • Hmm.. if not a buddy, maybe classes. I used to do Zumba, and I HATE working out, but I’d totally go every week to shake it. That can be fun!

  4. A goal to drink more wine, that is something I can support!

  5. That cracks me UP about the Lil Wayne photo!! I wonder if you’re getting any readers who stumble upon this and then decide to follow…Maybe I’ll post some random pic of a celeb in trouble onto my blog to increase traffic.

And congrats on achieving your goals! As for the last one, I have been drinking wine for sometime now and can say that I know a fair bit about types of wine, but pairings elude me.

  6. Go you! i’m sure you’ll keep up with all of those…and good idea about reading an actual newspaper because when i go on cnn.com, i only read what seems like it might be interesting, or i go straight to health or entertainment lol. Although, i do love to watch documentaries . (i had to put that in there)
